U.S. Rep. Tom Graves, R-Ranger, has received his first committee assignment.
On Tuesday, Graves’ office announced his assignment to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.
In a statement, Graves said his appointment would benefit North Georgia because the committee has jurisdiction over the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which manages Lake Lanier. The reservoir, located in the upper Chattahoochee basin, borders a number of counties in the 9th District.
Graves, who received the most votes in a runoff special election earlier this month, is serving out former U.S. Rep. Nathan Deal’s term in the House seat. The term ends in December.
Graves is also campaigning for the full term. The primary for that seat is July 20.
