A 9-year-old girl told family members she was approached by a man with a gun Tuesday night outside a West Hall home, but authorities were unable to confirm the incident following a widespread search.

Just before 8 p.m. Tuesday, authorities responded to a home in the 3100 block of Duckett Mill Road off Ga. 53, said Hall County Sheriff’s Col. Jeff Strickland. A girl said she was riding her bicycle on a private driveway between her grandmother and aunt’s homes when she saw a white male standing in a garden. The girl said the man was holding a gun and began to approach her when she quickly rode off on her bike.

The Hall County SWAT team, which was already mobilized for a regularly scheduled drill, responded, as well as a Georgia State Patrol helicopter and tracking dogs.

No suspicious person was found following a search that went past midnight, Strickland said. No neighbors reported seeing anything out of the ordinary.

The girl told authorities the man was about 6 feet tall, in his mid-20s with a light beard, grease on his face, and wearing a green John Deere hat and light blue pants.

Anyone who may have seen a suspicious person in the area is asked to call the Hall County Sheriff’s Office at 770-531-6879.
