Georgia's resident groundhog, Gen. Beauregard Lee, may not have seen his shadow this week, but that doesn't mean winter is ready to give up its grip any time soon.

A breezy, damp Saturday awaits, and after a brief break, more rain and possibly snow are in the forecast for the coming week.

Today's forecast by the National Weather Service calls for a 20 percent chance of rain this morning, then cloudy and cold for the rest of the day with a high around 45. Tonight's lows will dip in the high 20s.

Sunday looks nice, with sunshine and a high in the mid-50s. But just like last weekend, the nice weather won't last. Rain will return Sunday night and extend into a chilly Monday morning, with a chance of snow flurries by Monday night.

A chance of rain and snow are forecast for Wednesday and Thursday.

Friday, a total of 1.13 inches of rain was recorded at the NWS automated station at Gainesville's Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport from midnight to 9 p.m.

The recent rains have kept Lake Lanier's water level steady at 1.069.92 feet above sea level as of Friday night, just over a foot below full pool of 1,071 feet.
