Calls coming from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation main line may be scams, according to an agency news release.
The GBI said a scammer is using the the agency’s 404-244-2600 phone number to look legitimate on caller IDs.
“In many of the phone calls, the caller has called home phone and cellphones stating that they are with the GBI collecting a debt with the IRS or collecting a debt for college and that there would be a warrant out for their arrest if they didn’t pay the fine,” according to the news release.
The agency reminds citizens to not give out credit card information over the phone.
