Gainesville Police provided this sketch of one the men suspected in a Monday home invasion.

Porfirio Salcido, a Gainesville High School student, said he had heard about home invasions happening in his neighborhood off Old Flowery Branch Road, but he didn’t think his family would be victims.

But just before 1 p.m. Monday, three or four men came in through the garage at his home in the 2900 block of Willow Ridge Circle and threatened his mother with a knife.

Salcido said she was home alone at the time, and the men went through his bedroom along with his parents’ bedroom, stealing cash and jewelry.

According to an incident report with Gainesville police, $250 was stolen from his mother, Marcela Salcido’s wallet.

Porfirio Salcido and his brother Luis Salcido said the men must have watched the house because they sometimes leave the garage open, and it seemed the men were expecting that.

The men attacked after their uncle left the home, they said.

“I was pretty shocked,” Porfirio Salcido said of the incident. “Like, I really didn’t think we would be one of those people. But now we just make sure everything is locked more often.”

The Gainesville Police Department is seeking the suspects, described as Hispanic men.

They left in a white Chevrolet Tahoe with black painted rims, according to a news release from police.

Cpl. Joe Britte said the victim was able to provide information for a sketch of one of the suspects but not the others.
