Gainesville Police Department announces promotions for deputy chief, captain

Gainesville Police’s captain and lieutenant are both taking a step up to the next level, deputy chief and captain, respectively.

Capt. John Robertson will now serve as Chief Jay Parrish’s No. 2, and Lt. Kevin Gaddis will now serve as captain.

Parrish said he gives some credit to retired Chief Carol Martin, his predecessor.

“Not only did Carol look to create a successor for her own position, but she made these choices rather easy simply because of allowing those men to prepare themselves for the next level,” Parrish said.

Both promotions are effective March 25.

Robertson has been with Gainesville’s department since 1994.

“(Robertson) is passionate about service to this community and ready to face this next chapter in his career with the department,” according to a Gainesville Police news release.

Gaddis has spent more than 23 of his 29-year law enforcement career with Gainesville Police.

“Kevin is passionate about officer well-being and believes that transcends into a more productive workforce.  He believes that we must care for each other so that we can care for those who need us the most,” according to the news release.
