A Gainesville man died Saturday when his small plane crashed near the Lawrenceville airport.

The plane, a Ercouple 415-D, was registered to Timothy Blake of Gainesville. Blake's wife said that he died of injuries suffered in the crash.

Gwinnett County Fire Lt. Eric Eberly says emergency workers responded to reports of a small plane crash around 2:10 p.m. Saturday.

Witnesses said the plane took off from Briscoe Field and then turned sharply to the left before crashing into the roadway at Industrial Park Drive and Hosea Road. The plane hit a fence and ending up in the parking lot of a nearby business, Eberly said.

No one on the ground was injured. Eberly said there was no fire at the scene.

The pilot was unconscious, treated at the scene by emergency crews and transported to Gwinnett Medical Center, Eberly said.
