Gainesville pedestrian killed on Roy Parks Road

A Gainesville man was hit and killed by a car Thursday evening, according to authorities.

James Donald Rice, 57, crossed Roy Parks Road after 5 p.m. Thursday near A.L. Mangum Road. Georgia State Patrol said the man “took a few steps on the west shoulder and walked back to the center of the southbound lane and turned his back to” an oncoming Chevrolet Silverado.

The Silverado, driven by Betty Roberts, 76, of Gainesville, struck Rice and came to a rest in the southbound lane of Roy Parks Road, according to state patrol.

Rice was found 25 feet in front of the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hall County deputy coroner.

No charges will be filed, according to authorities.
