The Gainesville Parks and Recreation Department has earned reaccreditation through the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies and the National Recreation and Park Association.

It is the only national accreditation for park and recreation agencies and measures overall quality of operation, management and service to the community.

This is the fourth time Gainesville has earned the honor since 2000 under the leadership of Accreditation Manager Brenda Martin.

The city has met standards related to the management and administration of lands, facilities, resources, programs, safety and services.

As part of the accreditation process, Gainesville had to demonstrate compliance with 151 recognized standards.

The process for accreditation involves a formal application, self-assessments and a site visit by a team of trained visitors.

Once accredited, the agency must uphold the standards by submitting an annual report.
