A Gainesville man is accused of backing a pickup truck Wednesday over a Gainesville woman, according to authorities. The woman died later at the hospital.

Paul Bruce Osborne, 57, was charged with driving under the influence and first-degree vehicular homicide by Georgia State Patrol. He was booked in to the Hall County Jail Thursday, where he is held on a bond.

According to state patrol, Osborne told the trooper “that he backed some 40 feet in the driveway” Wednesday afternoon at a residence on Osborne Road in Gainesville.

“Upon exiting the truck, he observed a female, later identified as Rachel Hull, 53, of Gainesville, laying in the driveway unconscious,” according to state patrol.

The agency said Osborne “attempted to revive the female before calling 911.”

EMS arrived on the scene at 1:11 p.m. Wednesday, and state patrol was called to the scene to investigate three hours later.

Hull was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries, state patrol said.

Cpl. Nick Jenkins said Osborne and Hull were friends.
