A Gainesville man is accused of taking American flags from two homes in a South Hall subdivision, according to authorities.

Bobby Ray Pendley, 19, was charged with two misdemeanor counts of theft by taking. He was booked Thursday into the Hall County Jail and released on a bond.

Neighbors in the Summer Creek Estates subdivision in Gainesville discovered the American flags missing on Nov. 24.

Pendley surrendered himself to the jail after the warrants were obtained.

“Video surveillance from one of those homes was instrumental in identifying Mr. Pendley, who came forward and spoke to investigators about the thefts and returned the stolen flags,” Hall County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Stephen Wilbanks said in a news release.

An attempt to reach Pendley for comment was unsuccessful.
