Gainesville High students get high marks at state thespian conference

Gainesville High School students had a strong showing at the Georgia State Thespian Conference held Feb. 9-10.

The juniors received multiple callbacks from colleges throughout the country. Rentavious Buffington was awarded the Pam Ware Leadership Scholarship in the amount of $2,000, and Ramiro Salinas was awarded the $2,000 Linda Wise Performance Scholarship.  

“Godspell” played to sell-out audiences both performances with more than 700 people attending each time. 

GHS earned three superior ratings in group musical theater for “Ya’ll Got It!” from the “Wiz” and “I Can’t Keep It Cool” in Solo Musical Theater performed by Salinas. Its duet acting individual events from “Moon Over Buffalo” received  two superiors and one excellent rating with Delaney Benson and Sammy Nelson as well as its group individual event “O Bless The Lord” from “Godspell” with soloist Isabel Owens. Abigail Mowbray received two excellent ratings with her stage management portfolio for “The Little Mermaid.”

Buffington completed his service as one of seven state student officers as John Bush was introduced as one of seven state student officers to serve the 2018-19 school year.
