Hesler Cardenas, a senior at Gainesville High School, recently finished in second place in the 2017 American Printing House for the Blind Insights Art Competition in the 10th, 11th and 12th grades category for his artwork entitled “Blossom Petal.” There were more than 370 entries in the competition, which consisted of nine categories.

Hesler has not allowed his visual impairment to hinder him from his passion for creating art. Hesler will attend the APH awards banquet in October in Louisville, Ky., for special recognition, where he will receive $250 as part of his award. His artwork will be on display at the APH exhibit and at the awards banquet.
