Gainesville received a clean or “unmodified” opinion on its fiscal year 2016 audit.

Revenues for the year were up 2.9 percent from 2015, with increases in property, sales and other taxes.

Expenses were up, too, with the bulk of the 5.9 percent increase seen in fire department, engineering and stormwater spending.

Total operating revenue was up 3.6 percent and operating expenses increased 6.4 percent, with cost of services rising by nearly $830,000.

The city began its 2017 fiscal year on July 1 with a general fund budget of $33.5 million.
