Gainesville City Council member Barbara Brooks has completed a training program with the Georgia Municipal Association.
Brooks, who was first elected to the council in 2015, received the Certificate of Recognition from the Harold F. Holtz Municipal Training Institute. The institute, which is a cooperative effort of GMA and the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government, provides training for elected officials. To receive a certificate, officials must complete at least 42 units of credit.
Courses with the institute cover topics including community and media relations, emergency management, ethics and finance.
Brooks received the recognition at the GMA annual convention in Savannah on June 24.
