A second round of winter precipitation is forecast for today, but most of it is expected to occur north of Gainesville.

“There’s a slight chance of snow showers on the county line with Forsyth, White and Dawson (counties),” said Alex Gibbs, meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Peachtree City office. “I wouldn’t be surprised if (Gainesville) saw a snow flurry or two mixed in, but our forecast is for all rain.”

A hazardous weather outlook issued by the weather service Tuesday afternoon said “mainly light rain mixed with light snow and transitioning to flurries” is expected through this afternoon in areas from Summerville to Cleveland.

Accumulations were expected mainly in elevations of more than 1,500 feet. The elevation of Gainesville is 1,250 feet.

“The snow showers will last longer over the northeast mountains where the snow will not come to a complete end” until this evening, the outlook stated. 

As with last week’s brief snowfall, this one isn’t expected to cause major problems.

After a few seasonably chilly days, a second round of wintry mix is possible by Friday morning.
