Visitors to the Gainesville City Schools’ central office may be pleasantly surprised by the new lobby.
In December, the school board approved $39,845 in SPLOST IV funds for renovations to the front of the office, including taking down gates that separate the small waiting area from the rest of the facility.
“It’s just so much more warm and open,” said receptionist Beverly Nordholz. “Before it was much more closed up. That’s what we like about it. And it’s much more professional looking.”
Superintendent Wanda Creel said in December the renovation was needed to update wiring, lighting and access. It was also designed to improve customer service.
“We’ve had a couple people come in and say, ‘Are we in the right place?’” Nordholz said. “They think they are in the wrong place because it looks so different than it did before.”
