Gainesville City Council on Tuesday approved funding for the design of a youth sports complex, tapping about $450,000 in impact fee revenue (which comes from new construction fees).Special purpose local option sales tax money will be used to construct the $6.75 million complex, the city’s first youth sports fields in more than 30 years, likely beginning in 2018 or 2019.The complex will be located across from the Allen Creek soccer fields, and officials hope it will serve as a catalyst for new commercial and retail development in Gainesville along the U.S. 129 corridor.
