The Gainesville Planning and Appeals Board approved a zoning amendment Tuesday that will allow developer John Roberts, president of Alcovy-20 Inc., to proceed with building a 55-home single-family subdivision off Wilson Drive.
Roberts said he thinks the timing is right to re-enter the housing market. He said his two-story homes will complement neighborhoods in the area, where sales prices are hovering around $150,000.
If all goes according to plan, Roberts said he could break ground within a few months.
The planning board also approved a rezoning request for Beehive Homes of Gainesville to build an assisted living facility.
The 38-bed facility is proposed for 1351 Park Hill Drive and would be constructed in two phases.
The property is currently undeveloped and adjacent to single-family residences, a pharmacy and an elementary school.
