Jerry Carpenter, a former Hall County commissioner, died Saturday, July 20.
He was 79 years old.
Al Gainey, who worked with Carpenter on the commission from 1997 to 2000 said Carpenter was “extremely loyal to Hall County.’
“He took the job of commissioner very seriously,” Gainey said. “He did a great job. He was always challenging some of the issues that we were up against or dealing with. While he and I didn’t always see eye-to-eye, that was good, because if all of us felt the same way then all of us were not needed on the commission.”
Gainey said Carpenter was always the one doing a lot of research, making sure the commission looked at each issue thoroughly.
Water and sewer agreements Carpenter was involved in were some of his most long-lasting decisions, Gainey said.
“There were some tough decisions we had to make, water issues being one of them,” Gainey said. “But Jerry always wanted to do the best for Hall County.”
