Five people were injured in a two-vehicle wreck Sunday afternoon on Ga. 365 at Howard Road in Gainesville.

The driver of a minivan ignored a red traffic signal while pulling out of the RaceTrac convenience store headed toward Howard Road, said Georgia State Patrol Trooper Jonathan Munger, spokesman for Gainesville-based Post 6.

An RV traveling north on Ga. 365 struck the minivan. Upon impact, an unoccupied Jeep the RV was towing came loose and traveled next to Ga. 365, went down an embankment and wound up submerged in a lake, Munger said.

The wreck took place at 1:10 p.m.

The five people in the wreck were taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center. None of their injuries were life-threatening, the trooper said.

For a while after the wreck, northbound lanes on Ga. 365 were shut down and traffic was rerouted through the RaceTrac parking lot.

Munger said the minivan driver would be charged with failing to obey the traffic light.

The names of those involved in the wreck weren’t available Sunday.
