Emergency crews blocked part of Ledan Road in Gainesville while they battled a chimney fire at residence in the 3700 block.

Hall County Fire Services responded to the fire just before 10 a.m. Saturday.

Fire Chief David Kimbrell said the home was occupied when the fire began, but it was reported by passers-by. He said the occupants escaped uninjured.

Heavy white plumes of smoke came from the chimney as crews were attempting to put out the fire.

About a half mile stretch of Ledan Road between Thompson Bridge and Sardis roads was blocked and rerouted by emergency personnel.
