Firefighter battling blaze suffers heat exhaustion
Firefighters take a breather after fighting a blaze Monday at an industrial building on the corner of Dorsey and Davis streets in Gainesville.

One firefighter suffered heat exhaustion Monday while battling a small blaze at an industrial building at the corner of Dorsey and Davis streets.

Gainesville fire officials reported the fire was quickly contained and that there were no other injuries.

Crews continued to remove smoke and extinguish hot spots after flames coming from the roof were put out.

Fire officials said they would continue to monitor the building, an old Fieldale Farms chicken processing plant, to ensure the fire does not reignite.

“The fire marshal says the fire appears to have started from some welding work that was done this morning on some old pipes and machinery,” Gainesville Fire Division Chief Keith Smith said in a statement. “He estimates the damage to be around $10,000.”
