Robert Patterson has only been a firefighter for a few days, though you wouldn’t know it by his resolute instinct when the alarms signaling an emergency rang through the station around 11:30 a.m. Saturday. In a matter of seconds, Patterson and the rest of his Hall County firefighting crew were in ambulance and engine, racing northbound on Old Cornelia Highway/U.S. 129, sirens blaring, to the scene of a reported unresponsive male in a home. The call punctuated an otherwise calm morning at Station 7, which headquarters the Northern Battalion, housing fire engines, rescue engines, ambulances, the Georgia Regional Hazmat Team and a back-up Marine Rescue Boat.Even in hours when call volume is low, there’s always work to be done.
