Hall County Fires Services Deputy Chief Chad Black said heavy fire was showing from the nearly 5,000-square-foot home when fire crews arrived.

A blaze destroyed a large lake home Tuesday night in Hidden Harbor subdivision on Lake Lanier.

The occupants of the home on the 5700 block of Harbor North noticed fire at the back of the house and escaped with their pet.

Hall County Fires Services Deputy Chief Chad Black said heavy flames were showing from the nearly 5,000-square-foot home when fire crews arrived. The fire was threatening other houses, and firefighters went into a defensive mode to protect the structures.

A natural gas line ruptured during the fire and continued to feed the blaze, and it took some time to have the gas cut off, Black said.

The home, which was valued by the owners at $750,000, collapsed during the fire and was deemed a total loss, Black said. The Red Cross responded to assist the displaced residents.

Investigators were on the scene late Tuesday trying to determine the cause.

No injuries were reported.
