The 16-day federal government shutdown in October had another casualty now being felt by area officials: It played a role in delaying a draft environmental impact statement on the proposed Glades Reservoir project in North Hall County. The delay from December to June of the report, which will be published in the Federal Register, is due to “a number of reasons,” including “impacts related to (the shutdown),” said Russell Wicke, spokesman for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Savannah district. The final environmental report is now scheduled for release in late 2014, and the “record of decision” on the permit for the project is March 2015, Wicke said.
