A Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen may be coming to Oakwood in spring 2020.
The fast-food restaurant serving fried chicken, fish and side items would be located off Winder Highway/Ga. 53 at Cedar Ridge Drive, at the entrance to Walden at Oakwood apartments.
The eatery also would be just south of the Publix-anchored shopping center off Winder and Atlanta highways.
The 46-seat Popeyes would have a drive-thru and access from Cedar Ridge Drive or Cedar Ridge Lane, which runs from Cedar Ridge Drive to the shopping center.
Construction “will be starting in early fall,” said Christie Sims of Norcross-based Hayes, James & Associates, the project’s engineers and land planners.
“We’re looking forward to doing (the project),” she said.
The project got the Oakwood Planning Commission’s OK on Monday, May 20, and now goes to the Oakwood City Council for final consideration.
The site is already zoned to allow a restaurant, but at the time of zoning, “a site plan wasn’t submitted nor approved,” said B.R. White, Oakwood’s community development director.
“As such, the site plan (for Popeyes) has to come through for a formal review and approval process” by the planning board and City Council, he said.
