A Hall County Sheriff's deputy was arrested today on multiple charges including rape, assault and child cruelty, according to a Lumpkin County Sheriff's Office report.
Scott Sugarman was arrested at the Hall County Sheriff's Office on charges related to a family violence investigation on Feb. 6 involving Sugarman and a woman.
Sugarman has resigned from the Hall County Sheriff's Office, according to agency spokesman Sgt. Kiley Sargent.
Sugarman was placed on administrative leave when Hall authorities were notified of the Lumpkin investigation on Feb. 10.
Charges against Sugarman are rape, criminal attempt to commit rape, aggravated assault, terroristic threats and two counts of third degree cruelty to child, according to Lumpkin officials.
The case is still under investigation.
Sugarman had been with the Hall Sheriff's Office for four years serving on the patrol division, Sargent said.
In that time, there had been no other arrests, he said.
