A 39-year-old employee at Primex Plastics in Oakwood died early Wednesday, Oct. 3, after a tractor-trailer truck ran over him in the parking lot.

Kameron Lamar Adams, of Braselton, was walking across the parking lot when the driver, Michael Edwards of Cleveland, turned into the lot and struck him, Oakwood Police Chief Randall Moon said.

The man died at the scene. The business is at 3435 Old Oakwood Road, east of Mundy Mill Road.

Edwards hasn’t been charged, Moon said.

Police, who were called to the scene at 2:14 a.m., have studied video of the incident and determined that it was “just an unfortunate accident,” the chief said.

“When you put yourself in that (truck) seat with a long cab on the front, you lose a lot of visibility,” Moon said. “He wasn’t speeding, he wasn’t doing anything illegal or improper, he wasn’t on the phone.”

Also, he added, the victim “was walking across the middle of the parking lot wearing dark clothes, and it was nighttime. The truck driver said he just did not see him.”

Plant Manager Mark Preston did not comment beyond releasing a statement from Primex Plastics human resources director Darin Dubbs:

“Unfortunately, we had a tragic accident take place at our facility early this morning. We cannot release any details surrounding the accident, but our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved, as well as their family members.”

The company makes custom extruded plastic sheet and roll products, according to its website.

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration, which addresses workplace issues, has opened an investigation at the plant, spokesman Michael D’Aquino said. He declined to comment further.
