Stephen Hendrix unseated longtime Oakwood City Councilman Sam Evans, winning the Post 1 seat with 66.7 percent of the vote Tuesday.

Who is he: The political newcomer works for McGee’s Cleaning Service and is a Hall County Schools bus driver.

How he reacted: “I’m definitely excited. I was able to shake a lot of hands and it just paid off,” he said. “Making a lot of personal contact is how I feel a councilman should be. I look forward to getting started.”

On the issues: Hendrix has said he “just wants to be part of the community, and try to give back and serve.” “I just love Oakwood,” he said.

What’s next: He said he’s excited to learn the issues involving the city and determine how he can contribute.
