James Nix earned a fourth term as Clermont mayor Tuesday, earning 73.2 percent of the vote against challenger Steve Reeves.

Who is he: The 74-year-old Nix retired as a forecaster of livestock for the Department of Agriculture and was first elected mayor in 2005.

How he reacted: “It is what is is,” Nix said of his convincing victory. “I just want to keep the town going and keep moving forward.”

On the issues: Nix touted his experience providing essential services without a town tax on property.

What’s next: The outcome of a nonbinding straw poll on the sale of beer and wine won’t stop it from being a controversial issue going forward. “It will always be present,” Nix said of the issue. “But as far as the council is concerned, I think it confirms the view of the majority of the people in Clermont. I hope that’s what it shows.”
