James Castleberry Jr. won the Ward Clermont Town Council seat Tuesday, collecting 72.5 percent of the vote against Donna Reeves.
Who is he: Retired as a manager with the Treasury Department, the 63-year-old Castleberry made his first run at public office.
How he reacted: “I got into this to serve the community, and what this says to me is that people have confidence in my ability, and that means a lot. I just want to do the very best job I can.”
On the issues: Castleberry strongly advocated against having alcohol sales in Clermont. He said the town’s biggest challenge is to maintain its level of services on a budget of less than $435,000.
What’s next: “This is a sweet little town, and I don’t think it needs alcohol sales. To be honest, the people that want it are uninformed about the cost to this town of implementing that.”
