Election 2017: Hardy Johnson wins Braselton Council seat

Hardy Johnson was elected to the District 4 seat on the Braselton Town Council, winning with 84.2 percent of the vote Tuesday against Robert Clark.

Who is he: The retired businessman has been involved in Braselton’s Downtown Development Authority.

How he reacted: “I’m very honored that my friends and neighbors would select me for the Town Council,” he said. “I realize this is a big challenge and that we’re at a real turning point in Braselton. I’ll try to do my very best to live up to that challenge.”

On the issues: He said he thinks it’s “critical at this time that we have mature, responsible leadership that has experienced life. We need decisions made in Braselton that will enhance property values of our citizens.”

What’s next: A key priority is making sure the city’s police department has adequate training, equipment and staffing levels. Also, he wants to ensure that growth and development is “reasonable, responsible and orderly.”
