The Georgia Department of Human Services is offering help with home heating costs for those who meet income eligibility requirements and are either homebound due to health reasons or live in a household in which everyone is 65 or older.

A check will be issued to the gas or electricity supplier on behalf of eligible households. Households must be responsible for their heating costs.

To qualify for the program, households must also provide verification of the following:

  • Ages of everyone in the home
  • Social Security numbers of everyone in the home
  • Citizenship, using a driver’s license or state identification
  • Income received in the past 30 days, using documents like check stubs or unemployment or public assistance checks
  • Recent home heating bill

Those interested can contact Ninth District Opportunity Inc. after 8:30 a.m. at 770-534-8826 or hall@ndocsbg.org. Those emailing must include names and birthdates of all household members or they will not be given an appointment. Appointments will be scheduled until all funds are used.

Walk-ins are not permitted.

For more information, visit www.ndo.org.

The program will open to the general public on Dec. 1, depending on available funding.
