Plans for a residential substance abuse treatment center off Benefield Road in southeast Hall County have been withdrawn.

The proposal to turn property at 4420 Benefield Road into a 24/7 rehabilitation center was pulled from the agenda at the Hall County Planning Commission meeting Monday, May 20.

Upon hearing the news, about 30 people who showed up for the matter applauded before leaving en masse.

The applicant, Phyllis Roshan, would have faced opposition from Hall County officials, who said in a staff report that the project didn’t fit the county’s land-use comprehensive plan or uses that would not “encroach” upon neighborhoods.

“The proposed development does not fit the description of a civic benefit under the residential designation in the Comprehensive Plan,” the report says.
