Workers have extended a left-turn lane for motorists traveling into Gainesville on Athens Highway/U.S. 129 between Interstate 985 and West Ridge Road in Gainesville.

The turn lane has been extended by 250 feet, with the goal of easing northbound congestion at U.S. 129 and West Ridge, Georgia Department of Transportation spokeswoman Katie Crumley said.

The work is being done as a DOT “quick response project,” meaning it addresses a much-needed traffic improvement and can be done quickly and for less than $200,000.
