An Atlanta man is accused of firing his gun during an armed robbery, striking and killing the victim’s Jack Russell terrier, according to authorities.
A man living on Berkshire Ridge Drive in North Hall said an acquaintance came to his home around 1 a.m. Feb. 16. The victim said the suspect had a gun and demanded money through an online transfer.
“At some point during the incident, the suspect fired the gun, but no one was injured. When the victim couldn’t get the money transfer to work, the suspect took the victim’s cellphone,” Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Derreck Booth said.
The victim heard gunshots when he fled from his house.
“When the victim returned to his home with law enforcement, they discovered that his dog had been shot. The dog later died,” Booth said in a news release.
Investigators obtained warrants for Dayvon A. Daye, 27, who in late February was incarcerated in the Gwinnett County Jail on unrelated charges.
He was transferred to the Hall County Jail and booked Friday, July 13, where he remains. He is charged with armed robbery and aggravated animal cruelty.
