Those worried about the deer population in their neck of the woods have an opportunity tonight to tell the Georgia Department of Natural Resources about it.

An open house is set for 3-8 tonight at the Gainesville Civic Center, 830 Green St. NE. The DNR has hosted similar meetings across the state as it prepares its upcoming 10-year Deer Management Plan. The commenting period on the plan ends Friday.

Biologists will be available to answer questions and provide background information.

The Wildlife Resources Division of the DNR manages the deer population using objectives identified in that plan along with biological data and public input.

Specific issues the DNR would like to hear about include

  • deer population densities
  • deer-vehicle collisions
  • urban deer management
  • seasons and bag limits
  • hunting methods
  • hunter access
  • education and outreach

For those unable to attend the meeting, comments are accepted online and by mail at WRD Game Management, Attn: Charlie Killmaster, 2065 U.S. Highway 278 SE, Social Circle, GA 30025.
