One man was killed Friday morning in a head-on collision after another driver crashed into a deer and then his vehicle, according to authorities.

The crash occurred after 6 a.m. on Thompson Bridge Road at Walden Road in Murrayville.

Ricky Ledbetter, 60, of Dahlonega, was fatally injured when driving southbound on Thompson Bridge Road in a Honda Civic.

A deer crossed in front of a Ford Mustang driven by Janeen Anderson, 51, of Gainesville, who was driving northbound.

“The Mustang struck the deer with the front of the vehicle,” according to Georgia State Patrol. “After impact with the deer, the Mustang veered into the southbound lane and struck the Honda head on.”

Anderson was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with injuries.

“When I left the hospital, I talked to her,” State Patrol Cpl. A.J. Allen said. “She was very conscious and very alert. They said possibly a broken leg, but they weren’t sure at that time.”

Allen said Anderson had visible scrapes, scratches and bruises, but none of her injuries appeared to be life-threatening.

She was treated and released, according to hospital officials.

The report was incomplete as of Friday afternoon.
