Chan Caudell was appointed Tuesday by Gov. Nathan Deal to the Superior Court bench in the Mountain Judicial Circuit, which covers Habersham, Stephens and Rabun counties.

The Cornelia attorney and former Habersham County commissioner fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Linton K. Crawford Jr.

In 1992, Caudell was admitted to the Georgia Supreme Court, the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Federal District Court in the Northern District of Georgia. He was later admitted to the 11th Circuit Federal Court of Appeals in 1997.

Caudell earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia and law degree from the Walter F. Georgia School of Law at Mercer University.
