For busy parents, carving out a few memory-making moments with their children can sometimes be difficult.

Knowing this, several area recreational departments are sponsoring father-daughter Valentine’s dances this week.

One such group is the Hall County Parks and Leisure department. The Hall County dance will be Friday at the East Hall Community Center on P. Davidson Road in Gainesville.

"This will be our first father-daughter dance, but we hope to make it an annual event," said Corey Dupree, department program coordinator. "We wanted to give fathers the opportunity to bond with their daughters, and Valentine’s Day seemed like a great opportunity for that — so fathers can spend time with their daughters and also give mom a chance to rest."

The dance will also allow people to learn more about the community center, which has been open about two years but is still unknown to many residents, Dupree said.

There will be music and refreshments, and admission includes a picture and corsage.

The Gainesville Parks and Leisure Department will also have its annual multiday father-daughter dances this week.

The city’s dances are held at the Gainesville Civic Center on Green Street and are divided by grade level.

The Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department will have a dance Friday, which will be held at the Jefferson Civic Center on Kissam Street.

"This dance has become a complete success. It has grown from 50 to 75 people the first couple of years to more than 150 (participants) now," said Colton Green, parks and recreation director.

In addition to musical entertainment provided by a disc jockey, the dance will also include food and activities like father-daughter trivia.

"It will be a game show similar to the ‘Newlywed Game,’ only with fathers and daughters," Green said.

Although there is an admission fee, Green said the dance isn’t about making money.

"This isn’t really a fundraiser," Green said. "It’s just a fun event for fathers and daughters. Our goal is to simply break even."
