A 44-year-old man died Monday night after falling from a tree stand while hunting deer in a remote, wooded area of south Forsyth near the Chattahoochee River.

Forsyth County Fire Division Chief Jason Shivers said the incident, which occurred about 5 p.m. Monday off Old Atlanta Road, was reported by the man’s teenage son, who also fell about 15 to 20 feet from the stand.

Authorities have identified the man as Jeffery Lane McBryant of Forsyth County. The name of the son, who was injured in the fall, has not been released.

“We had to ping his cellphone signal to get a good location as to where they were,” Shivers said. “We were able to get close and then our troops basically walked through the woods yelling for them until we could get voice communication with them, so it took some time to make access to them.”

The son, Shivers said, was taken by ambulance to Northside Hospital-Forsyth with “injuries due to the fall and as a precautionary measure.”
