Corps assessing environment for lake projects

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is conducting environmental assessments for updating the master plans of two facilities on Lake Lanier.

In Buford, Lake Lanier Islands wants to remove an existing boat ramp on the west side of its property and build a new ramp on the south side, along with dry boat storage, nine docks, a parking lot and a yacht club. The replacement ramp would be designed to accommodate a lower water level.

In Flowery Branch, the Lake Lanier Sailing Club has proposed improvements to its campground, bathhouses, wet slips, dry storage and parking.

Draft environmental assessments for these two proposals can be viewed online at www.sam.usace.army.mil/pd/Pd1.htm. Comments on proposed changes can be e-mailed to howard.w.ladner@usace.army.mil.

The deadline to submit comments is April 11.
