A Cornelia man was charged with murder after allegedly shooting two men Tuesday with a shotgun, according to authorities.

Tommy Savage, 56, was charged Wednesday with murder and aggravated assault following the death of Jesse Robert Looney, 33, of Demorest.

Habersham County authorities received a call to the 1700 block of Garrison Road in Cornelia regarding two men who had been shot.

“The victim reported their friend was shot and believed dead at Savage’s residence,” Habersham County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Floyd Canup wrote in a news release.

The aviation unit and SWAT team from Georgia State Patrol and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation bomb disposal unit joined Habersham County officials.

Tommy Savage was taken in to custody. He is the father of Celia Savage, who pleaded guilty in

2013 to two federal firearms charges after agents found pipe bombs in her home.

Law enforcement said Celia Savage “was not involved in or tied to this incident.”

Brandon Stephens, 26, was also shot, but he has since been treated and released from medical attention, Canup said.

Authorities said the weapon in the incident, a Mossberg shotgun, was recovered.

“A homemade explosive device was recovered from the deceased person’s pocket and was disposed of by the GBI Bomb Unit,” Canup wrote in a news release.

Savage is being held at the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office.
