Lake Lanier

The body of a 58-year-old Conyers man was recovered from Lake Lanier on Sunday morning.

John Lawrence Stanford was found in the waters at Aqualand Marina, which is off Lights Ferry Road in South Hall, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.

“There were no obvious signs of trauma, and at this time, foul play is not suspected,” a press release stated.

Stanford’s body has been sent to the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy, and the case remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office.

Deputies and investigators responded to the scene at 9:30 a.m. to a report of a body in the water.

Investigators learned that Stanford had been staying on a friend’s boat. The owner found the body after arriving at the marina Sunday morning.

The victim was last seen Saturday afternoon by other tenants in the area, according to the press release.
