A bit of construction is bound to catch the eye on a corner of Browns Bridge Road this fall: Golden Corral is coming, Gainesville.

Crews are busy at the site of the former Folk’s Southern Kitchen on Browns Bridge Road after months of delays and dogged questions from the community eager for a new dining option on the west side of town.

Framing is going up this week on a new foundation, and Golden Corral signage is posted at the site. The busy construction comes after the owner, Florida-based franchisee Eric Holm, told The Times the new restaurant is likely to be open before Christmas.

Holm owns 32 Golden Corrals around the country. The Gainesville location would be his 33rd.

The building ran into permitting delays in 2017 and much of 2018.

Gainesville’s Golden Corral will feature a new floor plan as part of a “prototype” design being tested by the restaurant, which will spread seating throughout the restaurant and scatter the buffet tables around the dining area.

“We’re about as anxious to open a Golden Corral there as you are to get one,” Holm told The Times in July. “It’ll be worth the wait.”
