A van parked at The Times' office in Gainesville was filled with snacks and drinks for firefighters working on wildfires in North Georgia.

A vanload of snacks and drinks was delivered to the Georgia Forestry Commission on Monday afternoon to aid firefighters who have been working on wildfires that have raged in North Georgia for weeks.

The Times accepted items at its office on Green Street in Gainesville to “hopefully encourage contributions,” Times General Manager Norman Baggs said.

“Our readers’ generosity toward, and support of, the many men and women fighting fires in North Georgia comes as no surprise,” he said. “Ours is a giving community, which it has proven time and again, and readers of The Times are the best of the best.”
