Marel’s fifth annual Charity Golf Tournament, Tour de Marel, brought in $12,500 for a local charity and on Aug. 1, a check was presented to Jane Carpenter, program director for the Edmondson-Telford Center for Children.
The golf tournament is open to employees and suppliers, and the Tour de Marel team had set a goal of $10,000 for this year’s event.
Each year Marel chooses a different charity to support. The ETCC provides services to children in Hall and Dawson counties who are victims of sexual or severe physical abuse or neglect, as well as their nonoffending family members.
The center provides a safe environment for crisis intervention and medical advocacy as the victim moves through the examination and investigation stages. The center opened in 1997 and serves more than 300 children free of charge annually. The center serves as a central coordination point for multiple agencies involved in child abuse to ensure that no child “falls through the cracks.”
