Members of the Newtown Florist Club will meet today at the Fair Street Neighborhood Center to hold a community conversation on the intersection of poverty and the criminal justice system.
The conversation titled “Poverty and the Criminal Justice System: The Effect and Fairness of Fees and Fines” is part of the club’s Criminal Justice Reform Project, which launched last year.
“The project is a grassroots community engagement initiative with the primary goal of working to help reduce the number of persons entering or returning to the criminal justice system,” according to Newtown Florist Club.
The meeting will involve judges, attorneys, law enforcement and other individuals involved in the criminal justice system.
The meeting will be 6 p.m. today at the Fair Street Neighborhood Center, 715 Fair St.in Gainesville.
