Members of the Newtown Florist Club will meet today at the Fair Street Neighborhood Center to hold a community conversation on the intersection of poverty and the criminal justice system. The conversation titled “Poverty and the Criminal Justice System: The Effect and Fairness of Fees and Fines” is part of the club’s Criminal Justice Reform Project, which launched last year. “The project is a grassroots community engagement initiative with the primary goal of working to help reduce the number of persons entering or returning to the criminal justice system,” according to Newtown Florist Club.
