The Hall County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a suspect in a May 31 armed robbery at a convenience store in Clermont near the Lumpkin County line.
At approximately 8 p.m., a white male entered the Country Grocery and Deli on Dahlonega Highway and brandished a knife in an attempted robbery, according to the sheriff’s office.
Manoj Patel and his wife, Sejal, were working the cash register.
The suspect claimed to have a gun hidden in his waistband and demanded money, Manoj Patel said.
Seemingly perturbed by Patel’s slowness, the suspect reached over the counter and tried to grab money out of the register.
"When he reached over, I saw that he had no gun in his waistband," Patel said, "so I grabbed my flashlight and tried to hit him."
The suspect then fled the store with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Patel, who has been sleeping in the back of the store since the robbery, said he was worried about more crime.
"A customer gave me that flashlight for protection because everybody knows this is a quiet area and that police are about 20 minutes away," Patel said. "Of course I am worried that this will happen again."
The suspect is described as a white male with brown facial hair between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing between 150 and 160 pounds.
